Need help identifying a mecha anime.?

This has been driving me insane the last half hour or so and it would be super appreciated if someone can help, I'll do my best at recalling. I think I saw this anime when i was either in elementary or middle school, so 90s or really early 2000s. The story was about a war between two countries (space colonies?) and a little bit of stupid romance. The main country in focus had like regular mechs (if that makes sense), whereas the enemy country had mechs that looked like gaogaiger/mazinger and other super robot types. The ending was really stupid, something like they just agreed to not go to war as long as the main characters marry each other or something.
