Serious question; Why are all of Britains ex-colonies very Advanced (U.S. Canada Australia) as opposed to....?

Spain's former colonies had to drag along the baggage of the Catholic Church which kept them in the dark ages far longer than the former English colonies. Remember that the Spanish Inquisition finally ended in 1834. With witch burnings still occurring in Mexico in 1850 right about the time Darwin set sail on t he Beagle and Michael Faraday discovered the relationship between electricity and magnetism.
